Hey Scarecrow--You Can't Scare Me! Reading Ideas

Monday, November 14, 2016

Our Scarecrow Unit

 includes stories/texts

to develop

several reading skills and strategies.

Close Reading

develops

Vocabulary and Comprehension skills

by having the kiddos

think about reading .

Often in kinder classes,

a Close Informational Reading

is a group choral experience

with the teacher and the kiddos

thinking and talking

together.

A Close Literature Reading

is

an active listening experience

with

questioning and conversing,

the kiddos and the teacher
 enjoying a story

together.

Shared Reading

promotes

fluency and speed

with

expression and enjoyment

( We like how one teacher calls it

"miles for the tongue")

The text may be

predictable

with

engaging passages

Framed Writing books

allow the kiddos to
create emergent readers
with predictable structure
and
key vocabulary.

Popcorn books
provide the kiddos with
word support and pictures clues
to read books
as well  develop
writing and spelling vocabularies.

     Enjoy!
